Miss Critical

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that it was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. Gen 1:3

God sees good in all he does.

He sees good and does good.

In the Garden of Eden, during the time of creation, he looked at every single creation of his, saw the good in it and went ahead to say “it is good”.

If your maker appreciates the use of his time and the work of his hands, then why won't you appreciate you?

God created man and saw good in him. He was so excited about this new being that he blessed him immediately and gave him (man) his own very breath (of life).  If God created you, gave you his own image, his own spirit/breath of life then why do you think so low of yourself? Why do you not appreciate yourself? Why do you not see yourself and all that come out of you in a good light?

Your critical state/nature is a reflection of who you really are.

Accept you.  Stop being so critical of yourself and everything that comes out of you. And don’t let people cut you down with their words or actions. Don’t accept anything that will put you below or make you feel worthless.  It is detrimental to your wellbeing. If you continually open yourself to this, it will continue to affect the way you see yourself.

Stop thinking your ‘creation’ is not good enough.
Learn to see things that come out of you in a good light and talk good about them. Yes, you can look out for shortcomings and make corrections but do not make that your sole aim.

If you don’t deal with this, you would be unavoidably critical of people around you. This is because it is normal that you would treat people the way you treat yourself. Hence, you would be critical of the men who come your way.

You’re probably so unnecessarily critical of yourself because you don’t completely trust God about what he’s done and is doing in your life. You are so focused on pointing out your wrongs only and appreciating absolutely nothing about you. This judgmental attitude of yours could hinder God’s perfect work in your life.

This is what the LORD says: Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the LORD. But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. Jeremiah 17:5 & 7

Do trust God. Let your heart be with him always. And be confident since you trust in him.

We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3: 5

This is how God is towards you:

He forgives
He accepts
He’s merciful
He’s patient
He’s slow to anger
He is kind
He is good

First, accept these thoughts of God towards you and be like this to yourself too. Say good things about yourself, forgive yourself, and accept yourself. To yourself- be merciful, patient, slow to anger, kind and good.  And then do these also to your fellow man.

Not seeing good is a function of a closed eye to things that are good. Ask God to open your eyes to see all that he’s given you.

Go back to the word.

You are not defiled by what you eat; you are defiled by what you say and do. Matthew 15:11

Declare the word. Say what it says about you.  In your thoughts and conversations, say good about yourself.  What you say will form you.

God appreciates his works. You are his work, he appreciates you.

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. Genesis 1:31a.

Pick up a pen and write 20 good things about yourself.  I already did for myself.
