Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of Jordan Valley in the direction of Zoar. The whole area was well watered everywhere, like the garden of the LORD or the beautiful land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) Lot chose that land for himself – the Jordan Valley to the east of them. He went there with his flocks and servants and parted company with his uncle Abram. So while Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom, among the cities of the plain. The people of this area were unusually wicked and sinned greatly against the LORD. Gen13:10-13 (NLT)

That the opportunity
before us appear green or appeals to our senses does not mean ‘go’ in the
spirit. In the spirit green on the
outside does not necessarily mean affirmative on the inside or in the spirit,
and that’s why as Christians we need to check and confirm before we make any
major move in our lives. Physical things don’t last forever nor are they really
what they appear to be. This also goes for people and circumstances.
Lot went by ‘only’ what
he saw and ended up losing everything.
He saw lush, prosperity and
green pasture and lustfully went with it.
There’s nothing wrong
with green pasture or things that glitter but things could go wrong if the lord
has not led you there. We should always
ask ‘Is the Lord with me on this one?’ ‘Is this HIS will for me?’ ‘Is there grace here for me?’
Little did Lot know that
this ‘promising’ land is already destined for destruction. If only he had taken
time out to settle down and confirm (find out) the true nature of what appears
to be so perfect on the outside. It looked promising but it was not the Lord’s ‘promised
land’.
Remember the saying “all
that glitters is not gold”.
Appearances are deceptive
and we as humans will always judge by the outward appearance - at first (1 Samuel
16:7); until we have an encounter with the subject only to later discover its
true nature. Whereas, it might be too late by the time we find out.
This is why as women, we
need to walk closely with God and put our thoughts and purposes before him. We
should always seek his will especially in a delicate matter like marriage. You should allow him do his work in your live,
if indeed you see and take him as your heavenly father. It is not good to set out on our own, making
decisions based on our senses or ignoring his nudging. One might end up getting deceived and hurt.
The Lord knows
everything.
He will reveal the true
nature of anything and anyone to you, only if you ask him and let him show you.
He’ll show you.
He’ll open your eyes, in
short, it would manifest itself. After
all, in him and for him was everything created.
If not for the lord’s
mercies, lot would have lost his life and entire family. He was left with his
two daughters and resorted to living in a cave, in a small village. This is way
beneath where he was before he headed for the ‘promising’ but doomed land.
He lost his wife and every
other thing that he owned.
Lack of direction will
lead to a huge loss and a total waste of our time. We need to seek direction especially
in key areas of our lives. Let’s resolve to choose neither gold nor coal, let’s
choose God’s will and heart desires for us- this is the best we could ever
have. With it comes no regrets.
